COOPERATIVE OUTREACH MINISTRY

The pastors of First Baptist Washington Park, Good Hopewell Baptist, St. John Baptist and Providence Park Baptist held a preliminary discussion regarding the needs of the Highland Park, Washington Park and Providence Park communities and how the church could meet these needs.

On August 11, 1984, a meeting was held.  Members of each congregation were invited to attend.  The primary concern was assisting people in need, especially throughout the winter months.  It was felt that this would be the most important mission for us to pursue.  After three (3) more meetings:  September 29, October 13, and October 20, 1984 and many hours of deliberations.  It was decided that we would open our doors in the name of Co-Operative Outreach Ministry.  Good Hopewell and Providence would work as a team.  First Baptist and St. John would work as a team.  On October 22, 1984 our doors were opened for coffee and conversation.  Our schedule would be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 A.M. to Noon.  Response from members of each congregation was gratifying.  Twenty people from Providence were asked to serve on the committee, eighteen agreed and worked faithfully.  Our committee members have given excellent support, not only their time, but food, clothing and cash.  If you have questions regarding the Cooperative Outreach Ministry, please contact Mr. Jessie Evans.
